2010

April 28 - Education Event
"Care, Climate and Cash: Part II"

guest lecture by Fr. Séamus Finn, Donna Meyer, Sr. Gabriella Lohan, Alyssa Burgin, Scott McCown, & Sr. Susan Mika

Over 100 attendees enjoyed an evening of fellowship, food and information on current crises.


2009

April 28 - Education Event
"Care, Climate, and Cash. A Discussion Panel on Current Crises"

guest lecture by Anne Dunkelberg, Rev. Séamus P. Finn, Donna Meyer, & Jere Locke

The current crises were examined by a panel with various expertise. Anne Dunkelberg focused on policy and budget issues related to health care access, as well as general issues related to immigrants' access to public benefits. Rev. Samus P. Finn discussed the "cash" portion of the gathering touching on the clear worldwide financial crisis. Donna Meyer covered the "care" aspect of the discussion. She went into detail about the lack of health insurance among Americans and it's adverse affect on the economy. Jere Locke emphasized immediate action regarding two climate change bills now under discussion in Congress.

2008

April 29 - Education Event
"Moving Beyond Corporate Responsibilty:
Where should socially responsible investing go and how will we know when we get there?"


guest lecture by Laura Berry

SRIC was excited to present Laura Berry, Executive Director - Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibilty, to the social justice community at our annual event Tuesday, April 29, 2008. We had a reception with a light buffet beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by her presentation will begin at 6:30. She brought her energy, experience, and vision as the leader of ICCR to San Antonio.


2007

April 18 - SRIC 25th Anniversary Celebration


The 25th anniversary celebration was on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel near the airport in San Antonio. Hospitality/Gathering Hour began at 4:00pm, with dinner and program following at 6:00pm. We have celebrated our anniversaries every five years. For this very special anniversary, we invited the first executive committee members and founders, former executive directors, staff of CRI and Camino, board members and friends to join us in celebrating this milestone.

Our invited keynote speaker was Timothy Smith, current vice-president at Walden Asset Management in Boston and former executive director of ICCR in New York. The work continues, even as you read this. SRIC members filed many resolutions for the 2007 proxy season. Volunteers and interns help us with research.



2006

April 20 - Education Event
"Doing Ethical Business in China: Dilemmas & Opportunities"

speakers included: Esther Ng, Doug Carlberg, Martha Ojeda, Dr. Pat Watkins, Rev. Davod Schilling

The SRIC board and staff want to thank all that made a contribution to our successful annual event. This event played two parts in providing a means for our organization to meet our goals of educating our SRIC members about social issues relating to corporate accountability and creating funds. We were successful with both goals. Rev. David Schilling, ICCR-Program Director for Human Rights, was our keynote speaker.

The other panel participants included Dr. Patricia Watkins, University of the Incarnate Word-Vice President for International Programs; Mr. Douglas Carlberg, M2Global Solutions-Owner & CEO; Martha Ojeda, Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras-Executive Director. The panel discussion was moderated by Esther Ng, Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word-General Treasurer. A presentation from each panel participant followed the keynote speaker. A question and answer session from the audience brought more awareness to the subject.




2005

May 18 - Education Event
"Global AIDS Crisis: A Response from Investors and Companies"

speakers included: Daniel Rosan, Shari Carle, Donna Meyer, & Bryant Hilton

“The Global AIDS Crisis” was held on May 18, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas. There were 93 registered who had an opportunity to hear speakers and participate in a panel discussion. Our keynote speaker, Dan Rosan, Program Director for Public Health-ICCR of New York, New York brought his first hand experiences of his visit to Africa, overwhelming statistics, roles of corporations, pharmaceuticals and investors, a vision for change and a design to realize that change.

Shari Carle, Sustainable Business Analyst-Dell, Inc. of Austin, Texas, shared Dell, Inc.’s plan to meet the needs of employees in regards to benefits, human resource and the statement of the values and beliefs which define Dell’s shared global culture. A question and answer session followed with the panel which also included Bryant Hilton, Public Affairs Manager-Dell, Inc. of Austin, Texas. The panel was moderated by Donna Meyer, PhD., System Director of Community Health Services-CHRISTUS Health of Houston, Texas.
